Caught in windy conditions, Gaurav Ghei managed a two-over 74 to slip to the tied 28th spot even as four Indians made the cut after the midway stage of US$ 600,000 SK Telecom Open golf tournament at the BA Vista Country Club on Friday. The Indian is now three-under 141.
Among other Indians, Rahil Gangjee hung on to his tied 35th place after returning his second successive card of one-under 71. He is at two-under 142, the same as Amandeep Johl, whose even par 72 saw him slip from overnight 20th to tied 35th.
S S P Chowrasia just made the cut with a one-over 73 to be even par 144 for two rounds and was tied 61st. The cut came at even par and Digvijay Singh was the lone Indian to fall with a 73, which took his total to seven-over 151. Korean Bae Sang-moon leads with a total of 11-under 133.
Meanwhile, Shiv Kapur overcame a strained back to card a brilliant five-under 67 that landed him in tied third spot after the opening round of BMW PGA Championship of Europe.
Just a stroke behind was compatriot Jyoti Randhawa, who shared the seventh spot with world number five Ernie Els, both carding identical four-under 68s.
The highest ranked Indian golfer, Jeev Milkha Singh, carded a five-over 77 for the tied 82nd spot.
The Britain duo of Paul Broadhurst and Justin Rose were two strokes clear of the chasing pack, having fired identical six-under 66s.
Atwal struggles
Arjun Atwal carded an even par-72 in the first round of the Melwood Prince George’s County Open and was lying tied 71st after first round, reports PTI from Mitchville.
