Post-demolition, they want more
DH News Service, Bangalore:
Residents claim the demolition had not translated ot to the original road width of 15 metres

Barely a week after razing the UB City pavement encroaching upon Vittal Mallya Road, residents of the area are pushing for more corrective action from Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). Following a May 19 report in Deccan Herald on the encroachment, builders — Prestige Developers — and BBMP demolished the pavement on May 21 and 22.
A week later, residents claimed the demolition had not translated ot to the original road width of 15 metres. “The original plan was sanctioned for the project with the road width shown as 15 metres. Even after demolition, the road in front of the complex measures only 13.6 metres,” a resident of D’Souza Layout claimed.

Surveyors’ report
On Monday, BBMP reacted to charges by saying a report by its surveyors on further possible encroachment was awaited. BBMP said action had been taken to remove the footpath and RCC drain that, the residents alleged, was sloped in the wrong direction.
The statement said the road width at different points was different and even touched 21 metres at a point.

Deputation of surveyors
According to BBMP, Prestige Developers has expressed reservation on further reducing the complex’s front setback area. “The estate office, BBMP has been asked to depute surveyors to measure the area of UB City and ascertain whether there is further encroachment of UB City on the road. The survey report is awaited,” the statement said.
BBMP said a report has been submitted to Commissioner K Jairaj to take further course of action with regard to the demolition of the front setback area or encroachment, if any, to maintain the road width of 15 metres.
Prestige Group has also been asked to pay a Rs 5-lakh penalty as administrative charges towards the demolition, it said.
