Gastroenteritis: Over 100 fall ill
Gulbarga, dhns: More than 100 persons took ill due to gastroenteritis at Madabul village in Shahapur taluk on Sunday. People had started complaining of vomiting and diarrhoea since Saturday evening and on Sunday, the situation turned worse.
According to sources, the mini water supply system in the village had remained defunct for three days due to power failure. People started using water from nagarabhavi, an open well, which was polluted, as it has been used for washing clothes and animals.

MLAs’ meddling flayed
Bangalore, dhns: A conference of presidents, vice-presidents and members of ZPs, TPs and GPs held on Sunday flayed the government move to empower committees headed by MLAs to select beneficiaries under Ashraya and other government-funded rural development schemes.
President of Zilla Panchayat Okkoota Damodar said hitherto this power was solely enjoyed by the grama sabhas and the grama panchayats. “This amounts to an erosion of democratic principles and practices.”
They will appeal to the CM as well as Governor against the amendment, which was recently passed by both Houses of the State legislature.
