Traders should come forward to establish the maize processing unit in the district, said District-in-Charge Minister S A Ravindranath on his visit to the APMC yard on Tuesday.
The State government is not keen on establishing new industries. Instead it is engaged in handing over the existing industries to the private sector, he said.
Thus, if a few traders invest Rs 4 lakh each then they can establish a processing unit. If only the traders give a thought about it, then I would do my best in providing the facilities from the government, he added.
Porters’ woes
Also, efforts will be directed towards solving the problems of the porters and the commission agents. Moreover, the interests of the farmers will also be protected, said the minister.
Since maize is grown on a large scale in the district, the government should come forward in setting up of a starch unit in Davangere, said Javed of the Maize Traders’ Association.
More than 300 products can be prepared out of maize, he informed.
Shortage
Due to the shortage of stalls the arecanut business has been affected. Thus, the government should intervene and better the situation, appealed the Commission Agents Association President Kusumashetru.
The porters who toil hard should be provided with sites. Also, the ‘Shramajeevi Bhavan ‘ should be completed at the earliest, appealed the Porters’ Association President Dasakariappa.
Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee President B M Satish and Vice President A E Nagaraj were also present.
