Higher Education Minister D H Shankarmurthy on Tuesday said the decision on proposed move to hold common entrance test (CET) for 11 post-graduate courses offered in different universities would be taken during the meeting of the Inter-University Board (IUB) to be held on June 2.
Talking to reporters in Bangalore, Mr Shankarmurthy said that some people, including a few members of the Legislature, have opposed the move to hold a CET and some others have supported the proposal. A final decision would be taken on June 2 after considering all these aspects, he added.
Ragging
Referring to ragging, the Minister said the Government would take action against the students indulging in ragging as per the directions of the Supreme Court and would strengthen the existing law, which was enacted in 1997.
Open varsity
On Karnataka State Open University issue, Mr Shankarmurthy said the government has decided to fill up vacant posts and give appoint the existing employees who are working on daily wages by giving weightage during selection process. A decision in this regard has been taken on a humanitarian grounds, he added.
Ansari statement
To a query, Mr Shankarmurthy, a senior BJP leader, said that there is no need to give importance to Labour Minister Iqbal Ansari’s statement on transfer of power to the BJP from JD(S). Pointing out that there is only a oral agreement between two parties on sharing of power, he said that the BJP has confidence in Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy that he would keep up his promise of transferring power after completing first 20 months in the office.
