Bangalore food bank
Vakil Housing Development Corporation (VHDC), through their “Bangalore Food Bank” initiative instituted in December 2006, have collected 250 Kgs of rice from various donors across Bangalore over the past four months. The rice collected was distributed to Apana Ashiana, Sneha Nilaya, Bosco Mane and Rakum School for the Blind.
The pulses collected by VHDC will be distributed to different beneficiaries each time, ensuring that aid reaches out to a majority of beneficiaries. VHDC aims at increasing awareness about this initiative and expects to achieve a collection of 5,000 Kgs by end 2007. In the coming months they plan to gradually increase the beneficiary list depending on the inflow of pulses from donors.
VHDC Managing Director M A Vakil says,” The response to Bangalore Food Bank has been fairly good.
The concept has been well accepted by the community at large and participation from donors is increasing by the month. Though we have noticed that rice seems to be the only grain to be flowing in, we are happy with the overall progress we are making.”
The project works with the help of donors, who are given free jars that have a capacity of 5kgs to fill. The donor who has picked up the jar would need to put in a fist full of one type of pulse in to the jar everyday and the jar would be filled in a month and subsequently picked up by VHDC.
Bobby’s big birthday celebration
RJ Bobby of Big FM (92.7) celebrated his birthday, which in turn brought a smile on the faces of children from ACT, an NGO who help in the emancipation of street kids.
The day began with Bobby taking the kids for the superhit film “Mungaru Male” at a theatre in the City. The fun didn’t stop there. Big FM organised a surprise meet with the music director of the film “Mano Murthy”.
After an exciting day-out, the kids and Bobby came back to the studio, where a party war ready for them with the traditional cake cutting ceremony and snacks. The day ended with the kids visiting the stud io and going live on-air talking about their day out.
