The Royal Challengers Bangalore may not be exactly going great guns on the cricket field, but their local cheer ambassadors have certainly not stopped backing them. Cine stars Upendra and Ramya were present at a press conference on Friday to speak about their experience of cheering the Royal Challengers team and being present on the cricket grounds during the home matches.
While Upendra said that the Royal Challengers would bounce back in the game, he felt that Bangaloreans needed to back their team all the way. “The format of T20 in cricket is similar to the entry of multiplexes in cinema. The format makes cricket more enjoyable and many local players are getting an opportunity to play with international stars, which is good. Similar formats may come up in other games as well,” he said. On a question about who his wife Priyanka (who is from Kolkata) was supporting, Uppi quipped: ”She has now settled in
Bangalore, so she is cheering Royal Challengers Bangalore.”
Ramya too booted for the Bangalore team and said that the team would do well in the coming matches. “I had not watched too much cricket before, but when I was offered this opportunity I jumped at it because it excited me greatly to be with the crowds and fans and cheer the team.” She thinks that the response to the team is overwhelming. “The crowd actually went berserk, I was taken aback. On the cheerleaders, Ramya was candid. “The cheer leaders are good, they inspire me to lose some weight. And if anyone is not comfortable with their clothing, they should shut their eyes.”
Her favourite cricket star is Rahul Dravid. Asked what she would do to lift the morale of the crowd in Saturday’s game, she said. “We will figure out something. May be Uppi and I will go at the end of the match, so that the crowd is in good spirits.” And who would she like to see in the finals of the IPL series? “Royal Challengers Bangalore v/s the Chennai Super Kings!”
