Jayakumar alleged that a Sectoral Magistrate seized a traditional drum while campaigning at Kamanakerehundi in the taluk on Thursday. The reason offered by the officer for the seizure was that the ‘orchestra’ amounted to violation of the Model Code of Conduct, he said.
Tableau seized
On Friday, the officials seized a tableau when it was passing in the city, he complained.
“Chamundeshwari constituency consists of both rural and urban parts and when permission is obtained, where does the question of seizing the tableau arise?”, Jayakumar questioned.
“When I told the same to the Sectoral Magistrate, he accepted it and ordered the police to return the tableau. But, the police ignored his order”, he charged.
For nearly an hour, the agitators staged a demonstration and raised slogans condemning the alleged dictatorial attitude of the police.
Later, an official at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Chikkabettaiah, tried to pacify the protesters, but in vain. It was only after the officer assured action in this matter, the agitators withdrew their protest.
