Homegrown banking major State Bank of Mysore is reported to have lent the maximum number of officials among PSU banks (close to 100) for election duty. Customers too have a tough time as empty counters displaying boards saying, ‘Officials on election duty-Please Cooperate’ greet them in various branches of State Bank of Mysore across the City.
However, a senior official from State Bank of Mysore denied that daily banking transactions have been affected.
“You have ATMs for customers to draw money. Only administrative work could be delayed. Even LIC has sent its officers on deputation for election duty,” the officer said.
The Elec Comm has enlisted the services of employees from critical sectors like banks, etc. affecting their working. Large number of ladies are deployed on duty. Though poll duty is important, the commission should show some compassion towards women, atleast those who are weak, sick, pregnant or living alone without proper support. Ladies should be drafted only when sufficient men are not available. Unfortunately, when approached for cancellations, one is met with only bureaucratic indifference.
