Deccan Herald » District » Detailed Story
Photo finish expected at Sira
DH News Service, Tumkur:
Sira holds a very special place in the Tumkur district...

This constituency is being represented by  two state minister from the JD(S) B Sathyanarayana. He is believed part of Kumaraswamy’s inner circle.

His dramatic stunt during one Kumaraswamy’s village stay programme where he took off his shirt to pose for the TV cameras is the butt of the party workers’ joke even today.

Another interesting snippet associated with the Sathyanarayan was about the Sira lake. The leader had insisted that Hemavathi waters could never be diverted to Sira lake. ‘The Hemavathi waters go to Cauvery basin and Sira in the Krishna basin. How does one over come this technical problem?” was his question.

However his opponent from the Congress party T B Jayachandra managed to bring Hemavathi waters to both the Sira lake and Kallambella lake in consultation with the then chief minister Dharam Singh. His argument was that technicalities were not an issue with drinking water, a view that was upheld by the then government as well. It is for this reason that T B Jayachandra is revered as the man who brought drinking water to Sira among its people.

Added to this is that jayachandra has already announced that if he failed in bringing Hemavathi water to Madalur lake in two years he would retire from active politics.

This lake has a huge history. It lies on the border of Andhra Pradesh that has poached on our water resources and therefore draught has almost become a way of life here.

The filling of this lake would mean a relief to the agriculturists of the region. So one can safely say that T B Jayachandra is one step ahead in this constituency which is reserved for the backward classes.

But one cannot write of Sathyanarayan. He is a seasoned politician and it remains to be seen the ploys that he would employ to win the election. The competition is going to be tough and it may just end in a photo finish.

AICC advisor Dr G Parameshwar is contesting from Kortagere which is any reserved constituency.

Gangahanumaiaha from the BJP, Ole Chandraiaha of the JD(S) belong to the left wing. Parameshwar belongs to the right wing who has shifted here from Madhugiri because Kortagere is reserved.
