St Vincent Paul Society (SVP) of Rosario Cathedral organised a mass marriage ceremony in the city on Sunday where 21 couple from Kasargod, Mysore, Belthangady and other places tied the knot.
Mangalore Diocesan Bishop Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza along with the priests of 8 different churches blessed the wedded couple on the occasion. The wedding programmes were kept as traditional as possible as the basic idea to conduct the wedding in the typical traditional Catholic way, which is gradually becoming extinct.
Mannd Sobhann President Louis Pinto was the chief guest of the programme who said that marriage is an important medium for realising God’s plans. Therefore, marriage marks a special occasion in everyone’s life.
Many families are struggling hard after marriage owing to heavy expenditure they incur during the marriage ceremony. But SVP of Rosario Cathedral has shown the way to cut down expenses. Couples should take steps to control their expenses in their daily life and lead a happy life, he advised.
A total of 21 couples entered into wedlock on this occasion. They were presented with household materials of Rs 7,000 and fixed deposits of Rs 4,000 per couple. Rosario Cathedral Parish Council Vice-President Felix Albuquerque and SVP President Rudolph Tauro were present on the dais.
Earlier, nuptial mass was held at the Cathedral which was celebrated by Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza. Over 1,000 people were present on the occasion.
SVP has been organising such mass marriages since 1976 and so far 486 couples have tied knot under such mass marriages.
