With social networking website Facebook becoming a good way to date and even find suitors in Pakistan, it is now the eighth most surfed portal in the country.
Pakistani youths are getting hooked to Facebook, which is just behind Google and YouTube, according to Alexa, a US-based web research institute.
The prestigious Beaconhouse National University in Lahore has blocked Facebook in its computer labs because it was a big “distraction” for students.
In Pakistan where it is still not easy for girls and boys to freely interact Facebook does come in handy. Aamir, a member of the love and dating network, has listed his “interests” as “girls” and his girlfriend has been rated as “most desired” by his friends. For others, the website is the perfect platform to look for suitors.
Interestingly, while most parents are not comfortable with their wards, especially girls, chatting or dating unknown people, they are open to the idea of looking for future bridegrooms on Facebook.
“Access to quick detailed profiles with photos make things a lot easier and more importantly membership is free. Unlike a matrimonial site we are free to interact and exchange information,” pointed out Ayesha Ahmed, a Facebooker.
