Candidate promises daily train to Jodhpur

Ramadoss Athawle, MP and national president of RPI, on Monday assured voters that he will ensure daily train service from Bangalore to Jodhpur to make lives easier for the huge number of Rajasthani businessmen in the City.

He was addressing an election meeting organised at Maharaja Arcade at Mamulpet to seek votes for the Republican Party of India (A) candidate D Narasingh Patel, contesting for the Gandhinagar Assembly seat.

Anglo Indians favour Congress

A survey conducted by the Anglo Indian Unity Centre among 5,133 voters spread across the State has given the Congress a majority.

Speaking to the media at the Press Club, general secretary of the group, Anto Mendez, said, “The Congress secured 46% of votes, the BJP 37%, the JD (S) 18% while the percentage obtained by other parties was negligible.

“This is not to be treated as a pre-poll survey, it is just to understand the mindset of the public,” he added.

Clarification

With reference to the news item "Elderly woman dies of starvation" (DH, 23/04/2008), V R Lakshman, the lady’s son writes: “I wish to state that my mother did not die of starvation.

She was a cancer patient with malignancy and doctors had given her a restricted time to live. The diet given by the nurses was as recommended by the doctor.
