"It is a concern that we are not able to put it together on a consistent basis. We needed to win this match, but we did not get it. Now, we have no option but to keep fighting," Dravid said during the post-match press do after a six-wicket defeat to Kings XI Punjab on Monday. Royal Challengers have lost five of their seven matches so far.
Dravid also admitted that they have not played well in the first half of the tournament. "We did not play well in the first half. That is the reason why we are in the position we are now. We cannot afford to lose any more games and that is the challenge in front of us," he added.
Showed heart
The Bangalorean, however, maintained that they have some positives to bank upon in the second phase. "It was not that we have not showed intensity. Bowlers like Praveen and Steyn showed a lot of heart while defending a total like 126. Another 25 runs would have made a difference on the day. Now onwards, we have to put runs on the board for the bowlers to defend," he said.
Dravid refused to blame the Chinnaswamy stadium pitch for the batting debacle on the day. "It was a good wicket. There was a bit of pace in the pitch, and it settled down afterwards. In fact, it was the best wicket we had played at home so far," he said.
Meanwhile, man of the match S Sreesanth expressed happiness that he was able to chip in for his team and rated his two-wicket burst on the day as a result of hard work. "I have been concentrating on bowling in the right areas, and not much concentrating on the past," he said.
Punjab team coach Tom Moody said his side was lucky to escape with a win after making some fundamental mistakes on the field. "We could have done better on the catching and fielding areas. But upfront was good on the day," he said.
