Reports are being published in the paper that Congress and JD(S) have a pre-poll alliance fearing the elections. But this tactics of BJP will not yield any result, said KPCC President Mallikarjuna Kharge here on Tuesday.
He was speaking at a press conference organised on the occasion of Sonia Gandhi’s visit to the City on Wednesday.
Congress has good support in the state, expressed Kharge who said that BJP and JD(S)’s political gimmick will not work this time and Congress party will get a clear majority in the elections. In a democracy like ours rise in the number of ticket aspirants is nothing new, observed Kharge. This time 2800 ticket aspirants had applied for tickets but number of tickets that could be given was only 224 as a result dissidence can be seen in the party, expressed Kharge who said that rebellion has been pacified.
He said that party was confident of getting majority seats in the district and said that winning 7 to 8 seats in the district out of the 11 is also a majority.
Replying to a question about possible gains from the migrant leaders from other parties, Kharge cleverly evaded an answer by saying that Congress party is like an ocean where many rivers merge. To the question that Congress, JD(S) and Samajwadi Party had joined hands to defeat Yeddyurappa in Shikaripura constituency, he said that some times in politics it becomes inevitable. But immediately said that it doesn’t mean their are allies and sighted the example of Sagar constituency where Congress had fielded a candidate against the Samajwadi Party.
When the scribes asked whether he was the Chief Ministerial candidate, Kharge said that Congress had never projected anybody as the chief ministerial candidate.
