Addressing a press conference on his maiden visit to the capital as DMDK president, he refused to disclose the formula but said people wanted success in the inter-state water disputes and not just rhetoric.
Vijayakanth, who inaugurated the party office here, said he was open to supporting any party at the Centre which gave a written undertaking on protecting the interests of Tamil Nadu and its people. In TN, however, he would like to go it alone.
“I am not running after the Congress or any party. But the Congress rank and file want an alliance with us,” he said when pointed out that the Congress has stated that it would have a tie-up with DMK in TN.
Asked whether he deemed the BJP as communal, the actor refused to give a direct reply saying: “It depends on how an individual perceives it. DMK would be in a better position to answer because it slept with both the BJP and Congress.”
The leader of the DMDK, which secured over eight per cent of votes in the last Assembly elections and is said to have performed impressively in the recent Chennai corporation polls, met CPM general secretary Prakash Karat while in Delhi.
Popularly called “Black MGR”, Vijayakanth, on the LTTE issue, said the problems faced by Tamils in Sri Lanka should be seen from the humanitarian angle and the Government should support their cause.
He, however, saw nothing wrong in the Government supplying military equipment to the island nation as he said if it did not buy the weapons from India, Pakistan or China would be ready to help.
