One of the basic intelligences of humans is the one known as “kinesthetic intelligence.” It is the ability of the mind to give the right commands to the body, specifically the hands, to carry out the most intricate or delicate operations with perfection. You may have noticed that one boy practices for a few days and becomes a competent batsman, while another is mad about cricket, keeps struggling for years, but can never score the runs. The former has well developed kinesthetic ability.
If you wish to check out your Kinesthetic Intelligence, the summer vacation offers very good opportunity.
There are many ways you can try out: Pull out unserviceable gadgets lying around the house and dismantle them and try to put them together. Ask someone to throw a ball to you and hit it in one specific new direction every time. Go out on a trek where you can do mountain climbing, rafting or camping. Try balancing a cycle at the slowest possible speed. Fill in colours in the outline of an intricate drawing. Get some Meccano type of games and time yourself compared to others, how fast and accurately can you assemble things together.
If you are able to do the above efficiently, you know that your kinesthetic ability is high. You can also further build on it by constant practice. You will be amazed at the number of top professions that require kinesthetic skills.
Using kinesthetics you can be a very successful surgeon, computer programmer, animator, pilot, sportsperson, dentist, physiotherapist, interior designer, beautician, visual merchandiser, film maker, military officer, agricultural scientist, detective – and of course, a wrestler, boxer or a James Bond!
Even if you do not select any of the above professions, there will always be occasion to use your hands skillfully, and the practice you gain now during your holidays will give you a skill that will last with you for a long time.
