Preethi Ujjini defeated Swathi H Kumar 6-2, 6-3 to enter the semifinals in the girls (U-16) category of the KSLTA AITA Talent Series tennis tournament at the KSLTA courts here on Wednesday.

Ujjini took the first set (6-2) rather easily. Swathi didn’t show any signs of a fightback in the second set and won only three games thereby allowing Preethi an easy passage into the semis.

Ujjini will be joined in the last four by S P Ritu, Preethi Gokhale and Jane Jacob.

While Ritu had a relatively easy ride into the semis after getting past Uttara Kirshna Kumar 6-1, 6-2, Preethi Gokhale and Jane Jacob really had to work hard before prevailing over their opponents in three-setters.

Preethi beat Pooja Patil 7-6 (7-3), 3-6, 6-3, while Jane battled past Shruthi Ashok 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

Meanwhile, Sagar Manjunath beat Kashyap Ashok 7-6, 6-3 to enter the semifinals in the corresponding category in the boy’s section.

Rohan Goankar and Avinash R also entered the last four with victories over Varun Satyanarayan and Supreeth Dev respectively.

Rohan eased past Varun Satyanarayan 6-1, 6-2 while Avinash scored a comfortable 6-3, 6-3 win over Supreeth Dev in the last eight matches.

In the under-12 girls’ section quarterfinal matches, Nandtha Das, Taarani Chandramouli, Abhipsha Rath and Kavya N Kumar registered straightforward victories to advance.
