A 'panch' witness today identified in the court hearing the case related to Pramod Mahajan's murder certain documents seized by police after the BJP leader was allegedly shot by his brother Pravin last year.
Dattaram Shivram Nirvankar told Additional Sessions Judge Shrihari Davare the 'panchanama' of the site of the crime -- Pramod's living room -- and Pravin's car was done in his presence.
Nirvankar identified original receipts for the purchase of a magazine by Pravin, his driving licence and gun permit that were seized by police in his presence on April 22, the day Mahajan was shot in his south Mumbai residence.
He said on the day of the incident, he was having tea near Godavari building, next to Poorna building where Mahajan lived. Nirvankar said he saw a crowd near Poorna building and asked policemen what had happened.
They told him that Mahajan had been shot and one of them asked him if he would become a panch in the case to which he agreed.
When taken to Mahajan's house, Nirvankar was introduced to a boy, Mahesh Wankhede (Pramod's domestic help), he said.
Nirvankar said there was a cup, a saucer and a glass on the dining table. A bullet shell was found on the carpet near the sofa, another under a chair and the third near a cable.
There were bloodstains on the wall and carpet. After being photographed, the bullet shells and samples of bloodstains were collected and put in four packets, he said.
A forensic expert put some powder and lifted fingerprints from the glass, which were taken on record in front of him.
