Campaign concludes
DH News Service, Bangalore:
Political parties came out in full strength on Thursday to woo voters in the City for the one last time...

Like its rivals, the BJP too made maximum of the last opportunity, as senior party leaders were seen touring across the City asking.

The campaign trail which started as early as 8 am from BTM Layout Assembly constituency chugged across various constituencies before culminating at 5 pm in the North Bangalore areas.

Throughout the road-show BJP’s chief ministerial candidate B S Yeddyurappa and senior party leader Ananth Kumar were seen urging the people to vote for one party and avoid another coalition government to pave way for the overall development.

The two leaders, who started a combined campaign trail were later seen wooing voters at different locations in the City.

Adding a dash of glamour to the saffron party’s last day campaign trail was popular television actress and BJP leader Smriti Irani who accompanied the leaders.

Appealing to the people to vote for the BJP, the actress was showered with flower petals as the open top vehicle in which she was travelling passed through the narrow lanes of Neelasandra, Byappanahalli and Sarvajnanagar.

Predicting a huge win for her party in the election, she took dig at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s campaign trail in the City on Thursday.

“ Where is the Prime Minister ? There seems to be no impact on the City, even when the nation’s Prime Minister is on a visit to the city every thing seemed normal,” she sarcastically said.

She further added that Manmohan Singh did not want to meet people and instead address a closed door meeting amidst intellectuals fearing that the common man would question him on the price rise, slow down of development in Bangalore and on the creeping incident of terrorism in the City.

Cong remarks

The BJP rubbished Congress’ claim in taking credit for the increase in revenue of Bangalore from Rs 3,000 crore to Rs 31,000 crore during the last decade.

BJP National General Secretary Ananth Kumar said, “the increase in revenue is due to the contribution by entrepreneurs and not Congressmen.”

It was during the NDA regime that green signal was given to the international airport, Bangalore Metro and the Cauvery 4th stage water supply project, he said.
