On the last day of the campaigning for the first phase of elections, the Congress made its last ditch effort to woo Bangaloreans. On Thursday it was the turn of senior party leader M Veerappa Moily to unveil an agenda to make Bangalore and other cities a better place to live.
The Party, if it comes to power, wants to bring back the brand image of Bangalore as the Garden City by increasing the number of ponds and lakes. It also said that there would be no slums in the capital as the party would like to develop slums into ‘Happy-Habitats’.
Moily told reporters that, to decongest the traffic, a comprehensive traffic integrated management plan will be put in place. The thriving the real estate sector would be regulated in the City and a long term plan to meet the power requirement of the City for the next 25 years would be prepared.
Citing example, Moily said that the Union Government had identified Bangalore under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission programme and allocated Rs 23,500 crore for various developmental schemes for seven years beginning December 2005.
But the BJP-JD(S) government could not submit the 'the City Development Plan' as it did not hold elections to the BBMP even 18 months after expiry of its term.
