Mr Nijalingappa’s exit from office is “due to his indifference to power and lack of essentials in the game of politics – the manoeuvring.”
Mr Nijalingappa was as cheerful in climbing down the Chief Ministership as he was when he assended it. He looked unperturbed at the turn of events this morning and so were many of his Cabinet colleagues.
His successor to office, Mr B D Jatti quiet and unassuming, never felt elated at his choice to head the administration of the new State.
Kannada To Be Official Language
Bangalore, May 8
The possibility of adopting Kannada as the official language of the State was indicated here today. Government were considering the appointment of a committee of experts to examine the question.

WB Advise To Levy New Taxes
New Delhi, May 8.
The World Bank has advised India to broaden the domestic resources base, given its high and growing investment requirements and challenges on the external front, by a host of measures including taxation of higher income groups in the agricultural sector.
Its package, comprises a cess on crops to supplement land revenue or the “more attractive” alternative of an agriculture holding tax and expenditure tax.
