An experience to cherish
AV

An evening of the sacred and profane, a musical performance by Jonas Olsson and Neecia Majolly was hosted at Alliance Francaise recently. The duo featured works by Georg Friedrich Handel, Richard Wagner, Franz Schubert and Wilhelm Stenhammar to name a few. While they performed the audience sat back, relishing soft and soothing music which was an experience to cherish.

The evening began with Neccia Majolly playing Johannes Bhrams - Intermezzo Op.118 No.2 followed by Mozart’s Sonata in C K 330.

When the applause subsided, Neccia resumed her place at the piano to play Maurice Ravel - Le Tombeau de Couperin and Frederich Chopin’s Ballade in g minor Op.33 before the first half came to an end.

In the second half, Neccia was accompanied by Jonas Olsson on the vocals and together they created magic playing Handel’s `He was despised’ and Lascia ch’io pianga and Che faro senza Eudrice by Gluck. These were followed by the powerful song Erlkonig by Schubert  and Wilhelm Stenhammar’s Jungfru Blond och jungfru Brunett. The evening ended with Biblical songs by Antonin Dvorak.

Neccia Majolly’s feel on the piano accompanied by high pitched singing of Jonas Olsson left the audience with a night to remember. Indeed, it was “an evening of sacred and profane”.

Jonas Olsson is a western classical singer and has participated in many of Sweden’s best known choirs both as a soloist and as choir singer.

Neecia Majolly, a concert pianist, conductor, singer, teacher, and composer has played successful concerts in Australia, Brunei, Singapore, Malayasia and India. She directs the Cameratas and Madrigals, two of India’s leading choirs. She is the Karnataka representative of the London College of Music Examination.

The concert at Bangalore was the last leg of their four-city tour that included New Delhi, Kolkata and Hyderabad.
