Basic legal awareness is a must, says Judge
Kolar ,DHNS:
The onus to create awareness among the public about the law rests on the Legal Services Authority, said Principal District and Sessions Court Judge A V Chandrashekar.

Law is a man made institution inorder to ensure smooth functioning of a society. However, the onus to create awareness among the public about the law rests on the Legal Services Authority, said Principal District and Sessions Court Judge A V Chandrashekar.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the Free Legal Awareness and Help Programme on Friday at the Government Boys College.

This was jointly organised by the Zilla Legal Services Authority, Government Law College and Progressive Women’s Organisations and others in celebration of the National Legal Services Day. Moreover, awareness about legal issues that can have an effect on our daily lives needs to be created among the general public. The role played by the Legal Services Authority in this direction is very pivotal.

People who follow the rules do not require law enforcing agencies. However, even they need to follow certain rules and regulations as it is important for the functioning of the society, he observed.

Laws can be compared to Lakshmana Rekha, as a result a minimum awareness about the same is needed. To protect the interests of the farmers APMC Act has been enforced. The public should also join hands in creating awareness about legal issues, he observed.

Principal Civil Court Judge (Senior rank) Mallikarjun Kinakeri spoke on Vehicles Act and Consumers’ Welfare.

Every year 12 lakh people die in road accidents and  5 crore are injured in the world. The speeding drivers and negligent driving can be considered as responsible for the accidents, he observed.

The riders need to have the following namely driving license, insurance and they need to have paid the road tax. If all these is followed then would b easy to provide relief at the time of accidents, he observed.
