We pledge to keep our home, courtyard and street clean. When these enthusiastic youth and children can come to our locality and clean our streets, so can we!” was the spirit with which the Cleanliness Awareness Campaign held on 4th November was conducted.
It was an attempt by Oasis, a voluntary organisation, to bring together responsible citizens of Bangalore city, local area youth, women and Brihad Bangalore Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) officials on one platform to address the issue of cleanliness in the area.
The campaign was attended by about 170 people and commenced amidst drum beats and skits by the young professionals and school children followed by cleaning up of the streets and spraying of bleaching powder. Local residents who watched the volunteers promised to keep their surroundings clean.
Oasis on behalf of the residents of LR Nagar requested the BBMP officials to ensure door to door collection of garbage in the area to which the officials gave an affirmative response. The BBMP sweepers were applauded for hand picking garbage everyday.
