Lucky Ali at Brindavan College

Falling down is in fact not a failure, but refusing to get up is”, said Lucky Ali, the well known composer and play back singer of Bollywood fame, while inaugurating the Freshers’ Day of Brindavan College. He also entertained the students with a couple of his famous songs.

The function was conducted to welcome the newly admitted students to the various U G and P G courses offered by the college. The famous veteran Indian cricketer Padmashree Syed M H Kirmani and Bangalore University Syndicate Member Dr D Ayyappa Dorai were the Guests of Honour at the function. Sarala Unnikrishnan, programme director of ICCR, Government of India spoke in the programme.

The function was presided over by Dr Majeed A A Sabha, Chairman of Brindavan College. Cultural programmes by the students followed the inaugural session.

Lecture series on Nobel Prize

Bangalore University has decided to conduct Lecture Series on Nobel Prize Awards-2007. The first lecture of the series was conducted on November 3 on a physics topic ‘Gaint Magneto Resistance’ for which nobel prize was awarded jointly to Albert, University of Paris and Peter Grunberg, Julich Research Centre, Germany in this year.

Homi Bhabha fellow and former Director of Raman Research Centre Prof N Kumar delivered the lecture which was conducted jointly by University Library and IQAC at Senate Hall of the University.

Bangalore chapter of Indian Physics Association and Department of Physics co-sponsored the function. Raman Research Institute President Prof N Uday Shankar inaugurated the programme.

While Physics Department Chairperson Prof Ramani welcomed the audience, Dr V M Doddamani, Secretary of Indian Physics Association’s Bangalore chapter, proposed a vote of thanks.

Lecture on Suvarna Karnataka

Bangalore University Forum for Free Thought organised a special lecture on the occasion of Suvarna Karnataka and Diamond Jubilee of Indian Independence on October 31 at H N Auditorium, Jananabharathi Campus, Bangalore.

University Vice Chancellor Dr HA Ranganath presided over the programme.
The book ‘Suvarna Karnataka Male’ was released on the occasion by Dr Siddalingaiah, Chairman of Kannada Development Authority, Government of Karnataka.

Eminent writer and freedom fighter Ko Channabasapa and well known writer Dr G Ramakrishna delivered lectures in the programme. Dr S Chandrashekar, Coordinator of Forum for Free Thought, welcomed the gathering.

Management fest

Al-Ameen Institute of Management Studies is organising a National level inter collegiate management fest at Sathya Sai Samskrutha Sadanam, Koramangala, Bangalore on November 16 and 17.

Refresher course

The Valedictory function of Refresher Course in Kannada jointly organized by UGC-ASC and Centre for Kannada Studies, Bangalore University was held on November 6. 

Prof H A Ranganath, Vice-Chancellor and the Chief Guest of the function talked about the relationship between the teacher and the students. 

He advised the teachers not to consider refresher course as burden and instead utilise the resoucefulness of the course and transform the knowledge to the students to develop their interest towards the subject.

Dr Basavaraj Kalgudi, Director, Centre for Kannada Studies while presiding the function advised the teachers that attending the refresher courses will certainly be useful in enriching their knowledge. Prof P Sivagnana Murthy Director, UGC-ASC, briefed about the concept of refresher course and advised the teachers to utilise the opportunity  by attending them.

Dr Gangadhar (course co-ordinator), Dr.A.S. Vaidya (reader,UGC-ASC), and K M Mahadevappa (Dy Registrar) were among others present during the function.
