The much-awaited Rotafest 2007 culminated after two days of energetic and fun-filled activities. More than 100 youngsters gathered at the St Joseph’s College of Commerce to participate with enthusiasm and zest in various on-stage and off-stage events. The main aim of the fest was to give youngsters between the age group of 16 to 28, a plethora of fun-filled events.
The fest started off with the Indian Dance, followed by the ‘Treasure Hunt’ which came forward as the highlight of the fest with more than 30 teams riding all over the City on two-wheelers (safe with helmet) in hot pursuit of the treasure. Indian Music, Western music, Dumb charades, Rock competition, painting, sketching, debate, creative writing, general quiz, mad ads and Rotaking and Rotaqueen were the other items that added colour to the fest.
Green Apple Affair, an upcoming band performed with zeal and enthusiasm on Friday evening that brought a befitting closure to the events on the first day. Fashion Show contest, the most entertaining event on the second day, made Rotafest a big success. The categories for the fashion show were Indian ethnic, Indo-Western and Western formals.
The judging for this event was based on four categories which included choreography, garments, models and presentation (choice of music, accessories and props used and any other creativity or innovation).
Sandeep from St Joseph’s PU College was adjudged the ‘Rota-king’ and Fathima Khan from Baldwins was declared the ‘Rota-queen’. St. Joseph’s PU College bagged the overall winner’s trophy. Students from colleges like Jain College, Jyoti Nivas College, St Joseph’s College of Commerce, St Joseph’s PU College, Baldwins Methodist College for Women, Rotaract Bangalore Kalyan, Rotaract Bangalore Jayanagar, Rotaract Club of Bangalore, Rotaract Bangalore South, Rotaract Bangalore West, Rotaract Bangalore RT Nagar, Rotaract Bangalore Orchards, RV College of Engineering, St Francis College, Rotaract Bangalore Kanakapura and CMR College of Management took part in the cultural event.
It was a festival for youth ‘with a difference’. The fest was not just about dance and music. It was attached with a specific social cause. The funds collected were allocated to to various community development programmes and projects.
According to Sruthi Hamsini, District Rotaract Representative, the best way to bring the youth together is through sharing music, dance, fun, combined with social responsibility. Rotafest is just the right place for this with the perfect combination.
