Bankmen win

Vijaya Bank breezed past Army Service Corps 63-43 to register their sixth consecutive victory in the State ‘A’ Division men’s basketball league for the NC Parappa Memorial Trophy at the Sree Kanteerava stadium outdoor courts on Saturday.

For the second day running, Vijaya Bank registered twin victories as they routed Jayanagar Sports Club 72-44 in the morning, despite a valiant effort from Kaushal, who scored 22 points for JSC.

In the evening encounter, Bankmen were matched basket to basket by ASC in the first quarter. The teams were level 16-all at the end of quarter.

However, the Bankmen got into a nice rhythm in the second with Srinivas Naik, who came up with 15 points, and Austin, who basketted 16 points, taking them to a comfortable 12 points lead at 37-25 at the break.

Upon resumption, the Bankmen continued to dominate. Results: Vijaya Bank: 72 (Ashraf Ali 14, Deva Kumar 12) bt JSC: 44 (Kaushal 22). HT: 33-19; Vijaya Bank: 63 (Srinivas Naik 15, Austin 16) bt ASC: 43 (Prasad 17, Ravindra Kumar 12). HT: 37-25.
