It was a disastrous third day for both Indians Jyoti Randhawa (78) and Gaurav Ghei (81) as they shot their worst rounds of the season at the Sheshan International Golf Club in the HSBC Champions golf tournament here on Saturday.
Meanwhile, American Phil Mickelson moved within hand-shaking distance of grabbing his first win outside the US in 14 years as he took a two-shot lead.
He shot a third round of 68 for a 14 under par for a total of 202. He now leads into the third round in a tournament that forms the first event for the 2008 European Tour International Schedule. Mickelson is two clear of English duo of Ross Fisher and three clear of Paul Casey.
Randhawa, who was in top-10 and at one stage contended in previous edition in 2006, had three double bogeys and three other bogeys and just three birdies to show in compensation as his six-over 78 saw him drop down dramatically to tied 54th after being 31st overnight. From even par, Randhawa is now six-over 222 for three days.
Ghei's fall was even sharper. His 81 saw him plummet to tied 62nd and from one-over after two rounds, he is now 10-over 226.
Jeev tied 36th
Inconsistent putting continued to dog Indian star Jeev Milkha Singh as he managed only an one-under 71 despite some excellent hitting and iron play in the third round of the Mitsui Sumitomo Visa Taiheiyo Masters Saturday, reports IANS from Gotemba, Japan. Jeev's 71 took him to two-under 214 and tied him at 36th place. His earlier rounds were 72 and 71.
Australian Brendan Jones, six-time winner on Japan Tour, shot a three-under 69 to take a two-stroke lead after three rounds.
