Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner M A Sadiq said booth officers had been assigned the revision task in the 2,533 polling stations (Yelahanka 633, Uttarahalli 1,140, Varthur 491 and Anekal 269) in the four constituencies. The designated booth officers will visit households to make the roll revisions. As on 01-01-2007, the four constituencies have a combined voter count of 40,82,179.
“Our experience shows that people aren’t very supportive to revision exercises. We want them to utilise this drive for addition, deletion or modification of the rolls to avoid trouble at the time of voting,” Sadiq said.
Promotion of the drive will be taken up through channels including hand-bills and campaigns on auto-rickshaws.
The DC said periodic revision of electoral rolls was critical, considering the burgeoning floating population in Bangalore. Eligible persons who would have attained the age of 18 years by 01-01-2008 can avail the opportunity by submitting documents including proof of residence and age.
Sadiq said the drive to implement electoral rolls with the voters’ photographs would tentatively commence by March next year. The district administration has also started work on preparing electoral rolls for teachers’ constituencies.
