Deputy commissioner Subodh Yadav said on Wednesday to start the road widening works of national and State highways within a week.
Reacting to a report published in Prajavani regarding his style of functioning, he immediately paid a visit and saw the problems in the area.
The traffic on the main thoroughfare of the town T B Road and Ashoka Road has completely gone haywire. The narrow roads cause eternal problems for movement of vehicles. Illegal buildings and encroachments have become the order of the day, the citizens and CMC members had complained.
Reacting to these complaints, the DC said there was no problem to widen the national and State highways. He directed the Public Works department assistant executive engineer Malleshappa to take up the work.
He also asked the tahsildar Reshma Tahseen to make all arrangements in this direction. Then he asked her to bring to the notice of the building owners regarding the violation they had committed. A plan was made to widen the road by six metres from the existing road end.
Private buses: The private buses were causing a lot of disruption in the traffic movement. The buses were plying to Bangalore on false permits and this had affected the KSRTC buses, complained the citizens. The DC said that the problem would be immediately attended to.
As there were lot of complaints regarding drinking water and cleanliness, he directed the officials to immediately to attend to the problems and asked the people’s representatives to find a permanent solution to the drinking water problem.
The butcher shops were not functioning in an orderly manner as the shops were started in all the main roads in the town. Mr Yadava said that all the shops should shifted near Vijayalakshmi circle and to provide all basic amenities.
The town has grown to nearly 3 kms to the north. Housing along with commercial establishments have also come up. Though they are enjoying all the facilities provided by the CMC, there was no revenue collection from them.
This has still not come under the CMC limits. The people were constructing buildings getting sanctions from the neighbouring Handiganala and Idlugu gram panchayat, complained the officials.
Reacting to this former vice president D R Yusuf said that if the title deeds were given then everybody was ready to pay the taxes.
Funds had been released for nearly 32 works already taken up. But the proposal had been sent asking for money to be released for the same works. Assistant commissioner Dr Arundati was asked to do a detailed probe into the matter on the spot.
A proposal for Rs 205 lakh had been sent for road works, he said. CMC member Afsar Pasha, S Prakash, J V Suresh, D R Yusuf, taluk panchayat executive officer Satishkumar, inspector Dasappa, sub inspector Munikrishna and others were present.
