FIRST DISTRICT WOMENS CULTURAL MEET
Desi Utsav on Nov 6

The first district women cultural meet 'Desi Utsav' will be held on November 6, in the City at Dr Gubbi Veeranna Kalakshethra.

 The programme is being held by the District Women’s Organisation, District Administration, Kannada and Cultural Department and Department of Women and Child Development.

This was disclosed by literatteur and Utsav President B C Shaila Nagaraj at a press conference held here on Wednesday.

She said, on the day of the meet, at 8.30 am, a procession would be taken out. Women’s folk teams will be participating in the procession, which will be attended by Deputy Commissioner S R Umashankar and Triveni, MLA S Shivanna Nagaratna, H Ningappa Lalitha, G S Basavaraju Shakuntala and S R Shrinivas Bharati couple.

A painting exhibition has been organised at the Gubbi Veeranna Kalakshethra, which will be inaugurated at 9.30 am by the President of the Zilla Panchayat Krishnamurthy, Vice-President of the Zilla Panchayat Gadari Hanumanthappa will inaugurate the art exhibition, the book exhibition will be inaugurated by former president of the district Kannada Sahitya Parishat C N Ekeshwar.

 The Desi Utsav will be inaugurated at 10.30 am. Deputy Commissioner S R Umashankar will preside over the function. Literatteur and famous folklore expert Nirmala Eligar will be inaugurating the Utsav. Senior Director of Bangalore Doordarshan Kendra Dr Mahesh Joshi, MLA K N Rajanna, President of the Basava Kendra Siddagangamma Siddaramanna, scribe S Naganna, former member of the Zilla Panchayat R Rudresh, Kamala Kumaragowda, R Kamaraj, Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Panchayat Manojkumar Meena, Commissioner of the City Municipal Council Abdul Khayyum, Vijaya Prakash Mirji, President of TUDA Sultan Mahmood and others will be the chief guests on the occasion, Ms Shailaja explained.

A seminar has been organised at 2 pm, on the subject - Women and Culture. Literatteur from Sakaleshpur Susheela Somashekhar will participating in the seminar.

She will present papers on encouragement of art among the rural women. Literatteur and noted Hindustani singer Rekha Hegde will preside over the seminar.

At 4 pm, a felicitation programme has been organised to honour the Sobane singers. President of the District Women’s Organisation Annapoorna Channabasappa will preside over the programme.

On the occasion, artist Usha Rajashekhar, Manjula Kumutesh, Savithri Prabhakar, Chief Executive Officer of the Taluk Panchayat M Ramanjaneya, Indira Ramalingegowda and Shashikala Paramesh will be felicitated, she explained.

Valedictory
The valedictory ceremony will be held at 5 pm. Senior literatteur Prema Mallanna will deliver the keynote address. Vice-President of the Siddaganga Janashikshana Samsthe T K Nanjundappa, Member of the City Municipal Council Devika Siddalingegowda, Kundaranahalli Ramesh, Jayamma Kavanayya, Sarala Channabasavaraju, Suma Suresh, T Ramu, Kote Nagabhushan, Delta Ravikumar, Gangadhar, C Jyothiprakash, N Manjunath and others will be participating.

Various types of dances have been organised by the various cultural and folk teams from the urban, as well as the rural areas, as part of the Desi Utsav, Ms Shaila Nagaraj said.

President of the District Women’s Organisation Annapoorna Channabasappa, Secretary Mumtaz, Vice-President Tahir, Vasundhara Thippeswamy, Anusuya Rajashekhar, Co-ordinator Mahalakshmi Siddalingaiah and others were present at the meet.
