The LPG distributors in the district have been instructed that the domestic cylinders should be distributed to the customers within two days of booking, informed Deputy Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao.
Addressing press persons after participating in a meeting of LPG dealers and distributors at DC’s office on Wednesday, he said there are 25 LPG distributing agencies in Dakshina Kannada, including 5 of Bharat Petroleum Corporation, 10 each of Indane and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation.
There are 2,48,950 domestic connections in the district, comprising 1,88,665 that are sealed and 58,807 that are unsealed. A total of 1,600 people of Kasaragod have got LPG connections here. All have been instructed to get their cylinders sealed by April-June, he informed.
It is inevitable that one has to wait for 21 days to get another cylinder. If it was not provided within two days after this limit, the customer can complain to the district administration. Stringent action will be taken against the distributors the Deputy Commissioner said.
When asked who introduced the system of waiting for 21 days, Mr Rao said it was not the district administration but the companies supplying LPG have introduced the rule to control the people misusing the existing system.
If the LPG distributors harass the customers unnecessarily, they should complain the same to the district administration. The customers should get the serial number when they book, and cross-check it when they receive.
If the distributing agencies do not attend the telephone call of the customers too, they can complain, he explained.
The people who go for new connections should have ration card. Or else, they should submit a declaration. Without these, connection will not be provided, he clarified.
Food and Civil Supplies department Deputy Director H Ratnakar Naik, Hindustan Petroleum Regional Manager S K Pillai were present in the press meet.
