Install a popular government in Karnataka
Sir,
In the changed political scenario in Karnataka, both the BJP and the JD(S) have demonstrated that they have the requisite numbers to form a government under the leadership of B S Yeddyurappa by parading their MLAs before the Governor.
Surely they have a popular mandate, and a popular government needs to be installed in a democratic set up. It would be suicidal in a democracy to deny them the constitutional right to form a government when they have the numbers.
The BJP had emerged as the single largest party with 79 members in the last polls which handed out a fractured verdict. Strangely, Rameshwar Thakur’s silence is mysterious. The Governor needs to take cognisance of their claim and invite the leader of the coalition group to form the Government at the earliest and direct him to prove his majority on the floor of the House within a time frame.

Give them a chance
Sir,
Since they have showed their support base in the assembly, the BJP-JD(S) combine should be allowed to form the Government in Karnataka. It should be appreciated that the primary duty of the Governor is to the people of the state and he should be guided by the interests of the state.
The Governor can take a decision within the framework of the Constitution without consulting the centre. Hence, in all fairness, B S Yeddyurappa should be invited to form the Government with a condition to prove his majority in the House.

Unprincipled alliances
Sir,
The self-centred, greedy and power mongering politicians of all colours and hues have sullied the fair name of Karnataka by forging unprincipled alliances, forgetting the people who elected them. And the best option now is to go to the people for a fresh mandate to clear the air of uncertainty hovering over the state horizon.
President’s rule is not the answer as the Governor, acting on behalf of the central government is bound to toe the line of the powers that be of the ruling class.

Bihar model
Sir,
The present political situation in Karnataka is worst then Bihar or Uttar Pradesh. The prevailing situation has shown at whatever cost every party or a legislator wants power. When the image of Karnataka and Bangalore in particular has been recognised internationally for its contribution by scientists, artists, sportsmen and knowledge based industries, the present behaviour of some politicians have blackened this image.

Hue and cry
Sir,
As the dates for the assembly elections in Gujarat have been announced, all the media giants have gone into overdrive in “operation Modi bashing.” The Tehelka has suddenly managed to dig into old dormant wounds.
The whole operation is more a stunt to vitiate holding of a democratic peaceful election. The riots were really a blot on the state. But, the judicial process and various commissions of enquiry are in the process of finding the culprits and dispensing justice. Where was the need for a sudden hue and cry?
