Shruthi Balakrishna
Dr Rajkumar Children's Park at Hanumanth Nagar is one of a few parks in the City which not only guarantees entertainment for children but also provides information.

One would have never imagined the existence of such a park in a crowded city like ours. With the Garden City losing its charm to increasing pollution, this Children's park comes as a relief against the noisy places. Dr Rajkumar Children’s Park at Hanumanth Nagar is one of a few parks in the City which not only guarantees entertainment for children but also provides information.

Huge area

Spread across 18 acres of land, the park is unique in many ways. It is a blend of Indian as and western culture. For instance, two huge Egyptian Sphinxes are erected at the entrance of the park.

Roman pillars are prominently displayed at various places in the park. Each pillar has an intrinsic design making it distinctive. Nine sculptures of modern art have been installed in various places. A brief description is enclosed for each art. The objective of installing sculptures is to introduce the children to world of art. Models of various animals and birds are set up in the parks to make it more interesting for children.

Park features

'Dinosaur’s World' has been especially created for children, where huge models of dinosaurs are designed.
A dinosaur's show will be organised where these dinosaurs' rotate and produce various sounds. This is done with the help of the latest technology. A mini playground comprising play tools like swings, seesaw and sliders has been set up for children. One of the major attractions of the park is toy train.

A mini railway station has been set up for this. The distance covered by the toy train is approximately one km.

The railway tracks are placed in such away that the children can get glimpse of entire park. A cave has been designed, which serves as a passage for toy train. In addition to this fun filled activities, the park also has statues of some of the prominent personalities from the entertainment and literary world.

From cinema, Dr Rajkumar's statue has been erected. From literary world, seven Jnanpeeth awardees statues have been installed including Kuvempu, Girish Karnad and Shivaram Karanth. This apart, Kempegowda statue has also been placed for his outstanding contribution for development of the City. Each statue has profile ofthe personalities, their works and contribution in their respective field. This is not all. The park also has more additional features — Amphi theatre and five star glass house.

Amphi theatre

Amphi theatre, where the cultural programmes and plays will be conducted has seating arrangements for800 people. A huge musical fountain is located near the amphi theatre . In the simple yet well-designed glass house will be rented to conduct wedding anniversaries and birthday parties. It can accommodate 350 persons. The entire park is illuminated with different types of lighting arrangements like cracking lights and electrical coconut tree adds as an attraction during the nights. Food court is provided outside the park in order to maintain cleanliness in the park.

The idea

Brainchild of MLA K Chandrashekar, the works for the park started seven years ago. The much-awaited park will be informally open to public on November 1.

"Every day, on an average, we had more than1,000s of people enquiring us about the park including morning walkers. Hence, we thought, we would open for public," he said, adding that 95 per cent of the works are completed.

Further, he added that for the first time in the history of Karnataka, Bangalore Bruhat Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) has come out with a park, which has toy train for children.
