Drug discovery

PES College of Pharmacy in collabaration with Connexios Life Sciences has discovered a new drug for metabolic disorder. A memorandum of Understanding has been signed by the heads of both the PES College of Pharmacy and Connexios Life Sciences in this regard.  

Prof M R Doreswami and Dr S Mohan on the behalf of PES College of Pharmacy and Prashanth Shenoy and Dr MV Venkatraganna on the behalf of Connexios Life Sciences signed the Memorandum.

Symposium on Biotechnology

Create entrepreneurs and encourage private funding. This was the main point which figured during the inauguration ceremony of the three day National Symposium on Innovations in Biotechnology conducted jointly by the Department of Biotechnology, Sir MVIT and the Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology from October 23 to 25.

MN Vidya Shankar, Secretary of IT-BT, Government of Karnataka, Dr HP Kincha, VC of VTU and HA Ranganath, VC of BU were present on the occasion. A session on ‘Biotechnology Innovations in India- the way forward’ was chaired by Dr PS Rao and Dr Sulia. Anand Gupta from Accelrys shared his experience in the bioinformatics industry with the audience. 

Dr Vijay Sharma, Manipal Institute of Regenerative Medicine spoke about his research on stem cell therapy and various business models available for stem cell research in the session ‘Healthcare Biotechnology- innovations and and entre preneurial opportunities’ on the second day.

The session on ‘Research and Entrepreneurial Opportunities was chaired by Dr Saral Thangam from Lotus Lab and Prof Manjunath.

On the final day, the session on ‘Pharma Biotech- Innovations and Entrepreneurial Opportunities’ focused on the changing trend of the pharma industry. Dr BV Ravikumar, Xcyton Diagnostics and Chandrasekar B Nair elaborated on the intricacies of setting up an entrepreneurial ventures with special emphasis on the need of funding. 

The  valedictory function was attented by Dr A Jayagovind, VC of NSLISU, Bangalore, Dr Vijay Chandru of strand Life Sciences, Bangalore University Registrar Sanjay Vir Sing and Dr Viresh K Basalalli, Principal of Sir MVIT.

AIMS students return from France

Nakul Behal and Bhavin Pancholi, two students of Acharya Institute of Management and Sciences (AIMS) have returned after their eight-week internship at Vatel France, one of the world’s best hospitality industries in France.

These students were selected for the internship with French Government scholarship  on a student exchange programme after a lot of tests and interviews by AIMS and Alliance Francaise, Bangalore. Both these students have a plan to do their masters in Hotel Management at Vatel France  and work abroad.
