The Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement with support from United Nations Development Programme and Ministry of Justice, Government of India has taken up the restructuring of the medico-legal curriculum (forensic medicine and toxicology for MBBS). The curriculum with a social dimension was drafted by an expert panel chaired by Justice M N Venkatachalaiah.
The draft will be presented to the Medical Council of India in Bangalore on November 2 at Hotel Capitol.
The new curriculum looks at keeping pace with scientific progress and is made relevant to match the growing needs in the forensic medicine. It would equip the students to manage the medico-legal cases holistically and humanely, said Dr M A Subramanyam, secretary, Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement.
Dr Devdass, head of forensic science, Bangalore Medical College was also a member of the expert panel.
