Denying reports that the Congress is making efforts to form government, Mr Chauhan told reporters that in the prevailing circumstances, dissolution of the Assembly and holding elections are only options.
Political instability
“There is political instability in the State. Horse-trading is going on and the BJP-JD(S) combine has come together to form government because they are hankering after power. They have no real concern for development of State and its people.”
Earlier all three major parties - Congress, BJP and JDS - had demanded dissolution of the Assembly.
He said at no point of time did his party stake claim to form government.
Later, Mr Chauhan is learnt to have met the Governor twice on Wednesday and discussed with him the prevailing political situation in the State. He is understood to have impressed on the Governor the need to recommend dissolution.
Mr Chauhan’s meetings with the Governor was preceded by meetings with State unit leaders, including KPCC President M Mallikarjun Kharge, former CM Dharam Singh, CWC member G Parameshwara, former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and others.
