As a result the boy who has lost his fingers and his poor parents have been suffering in mute, to the injustice meted out to them for no fault of theirs.
A 9-year old boy Devindrappa of Ganganal village in Shahapur taluk was admitted to Sangameshwara Hospital here for an ailment. To the shock of the boy, he slowly started loosing his fingers. The hospital authorities did not care for him nor his parents. The boy had to undergo untold misery for rest of his life.
Taking suo motto cognisance of the report appeared in Deccan Herald on July 7, 2006, the then Governor T N Chaturvedi had asked the deputy commissioner to submit a report, after conducting an enquiry into the incident.
The deputy commissioner ordered the health officer and the assistant commissioner (Revenue) of the City Municipal Corporation to jointly conduct an enquiry. Based on the findings confirming the loss of fingers due to medical negligence, the report had suggested Sangameshwar hospital to bear the educational expenses of the boy and provide him a suitable job after attaining the due age of employment.
The DC in his report to the Governor in November 2006, had recommended for payment of compensation in view of the nature of handicap of the boy and the poverty of his family. But the compensation never came.
