The protesters ransacked the premises where the Karnataka flag was to be hoisted.However, the district administration celebrated the Kannada Rajyotsava in a simple manner amidst tight police security.
The protesters voluntarily called the bundh for the second time demanding the ownership of Bane and tree rights and banned the Rajyotsava celebrations.Legislator K G Boppaiah and his supporters destroyed the mike, tableaux at Kote premises even before the flag hoisting ceremony was held. For a while tense environment was created at the premises.
The protesters threatened and chased away the school children who had come to participate in the Rajyotsava celebrations. They also tried preventing the Deputy Commissioner K R Niranjan from taking part in the programme.
However, amidst tight police security the deputy commissioner hoisted the flag in the Kote premises and received the guard of honour from the police.The protesters also tried to block the celebrations at Somwarpet and Virajpet.
Legislator G Vijaya and former legislator Appachuranjan protested by tying a black cloth to the flag pole, when Somwarpet tahsildhar Suresh Kumar came forward to hoist the flag at his office premises.
Though the former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy had announced the withdrawal of circulars issued by the General Secretary of the revenue department S M Jamadhar about the ownership of Bane lands and tree rights, it had not been implemented. Thus, condemning this move the Kodagu Astitva Horata Samiti had called for the bundh on Thursday.
