BJP should focus on governance
Sir,
For having treaded the path of forbearance and perseverance, B S Yeddyurappa eventually got his due share. After going through bad patch of time and vicissitudes, Yeddyurappa is all set to occupy the seat of power and BJP is going to have it’s first Chief Minister in south India.
Now, the onus is on BSY to ensure smooth running of the wheels of administration to prove to its detractors that BJP can govern the State to the satisfaction of all.
Albeit, it is not a bed of roses for BSY, given his vast political experience, it is not impossible and he can withstand any turbulence situation that may be created by the forces inimical to BJP.
Last but not least, BJP leadership should settle down to govern at once without wasting time and should not raise contentious issues dogging the State. A ruse is enough for its adversaries, who are waiting in their wings to make mountain out of the molehill.

Economic policies
Sir,
Nandigram has become a virtual battleground for the West Bengal government and a section of people who oppose land acquisition for the chemical hub.
When people oppose Special Economic Zones (SEZ) tooth and nail, why is the governments so adamant in setting up the SEZ at the cost of lives of its own people? Why do communists adopt such a destructive policy, when they preach democratic and pro-people policies to others?
The CPM should realise that, their own policies may backfire on them, until they bring in a paradigm shift in their economic policies and should drop the SEZ proposal

Powerless UPA
Sir,
What is happening in Nandigram in West Bengal is nothing short of State sponsored terrorism, engineered by the CPM cadre. The central government is just watching helplessly under the guise of the argument “security is a state subject”, just to protect their chair in New Delhi. The response of the centre would have been different, if it had happened in a BJP ruled state.
Ever since the DMK government in Tamil Nadu threatened the centre of withdrawal of support in the privatisation of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation, about a year ago, Manmohan Singh’s UPA has become just an utterly powerless alliance.

Centre should act
Sir,
No language is enough to condemn the bloodshed in Nandigram which continues unabated despite protests from peace loving people from all over the country.
It is unfortunate that a political party which claimed itself as the champion of the poor workers and the peasants in the past, is behind this ongoing massacre in the name of acquiring land from the farmers to set up a chemical industry.
As the government machinery in the state has failed to control the situation, it is time for the centre to act to restore normalcy in the affected area and in the state, at the earliest.
