It was a day of adventure, bravery, acts of courage and managing disasters. Reacting to disasters, timely action, intervention of the Defence Departments, presence of mind, alertness, saving the injured, preventive measures to avoid further damages, etc, everything was displayed as a part of the mock drill, held to observe ‘Disaster Management Day,’ here on Monday.
The ‘National Disaster Management Day’ was organised jointly by the District Administration, Home Gaurds Squad, Fire Department, District Police Department, Department of Public Education, NCC, NSS and the Nehru Yuva Kendra.
Educative
The event was absolutely mind-blowing, educative and informative. Mock situations like - lower section of a house being caught on fire and rescue operations of the people caught on the first floor - was demostrated.
In such situations, what was the joint role of the Fire and the Police Departments, how should they encourage the caught victims not to loose their hope and confidence, how to save lives - all these aspects were included in the demonstration by the Fire, Police and Home Gaurds Squad.
The demonstration was utterly adventurous, meaningful and awsome! The public was over-whelmed by the performances. Inaugurating the event, Deputy Commissioner S R Umashankar said, it is a matter of great pride to note that our Defence forces were the bravest and the best of all.
During times of disaster, they managed the situation best and have become the pride of Indians.
Timely action
The public also should play their part by being alert and taking timely decisions and actions when disasters striked. They should immediately inform the Defence Forces and the district administration.
This would help in avoiding further damages. During times of danger, it is the role of the public which is very important, the DC added. Deputy Superintendent of Police K M Areefulla, District Fire fighting official T Ramakrishna, P Sudheer of Home Guards Squad, Kodiyaala Krishnamurthy and several others were present on the occasion. Home Gaurds Squad Commandant B Shivakumar presided over the function.
