Samsung, on Tuesday, announced the launch of its second manufacturing facility in India at Sriperumpudur near Chennai with an initial investment of $30 million which will be scaled up to $100 million over next four years.
Briefing reporters here, Samsung India Electronics Ltd Deputy Managing Director R Zutchi and South-West Asia Regional Headquarters President & CEO H B Lee said the new facility would become a global hub for Samsung operations with immediate focus on exports to Saarc countries like Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka from next year.

The plant would have capacity to produce 1.5 million units per annum of flat TVs and 0.3 million units for LCD TVs and make 21-inch and 29-inch flat and ultra slim models as well as LCDF models with screen sizes of 19 inches to 32 inches.
Mr Lee said Sriperumpudur was chosen due to port facility and growing demand in the south which accounted for nearly a third of company’s all-India sales turnover.
Mr Zutchi said the Chennai facility would also start manufacturing home appliances products.
