The 10 Air Force personnel who left 405 Air Force Station, Belgaum, on five motorbikes on November 11 to create an awareness about the prowess of the IAF to the citizens of the State, to motivate the youth to join the IAF and to provide comprehensive awareness, reached Mangalore on Tuesday.
Speaking to Deccan Herald, Sqn Ldr Samrat Pal Choudhury said that the motorbike expedition is a part of the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Indian Air Force.
“More than the adventure part, the aim of the expedition is to take the IAF to different parts of the State, especially to those regions where there is no base.”
The team reached Mangalore via Karwar and left for Kozhikode and then back to Belgaum via Bangalore.
En route, they visited a school in Karwar, Naval Base in Karwar and Coast Guards in Mangalore.
“We will be covering a total of 2,000 kms in 10 days,” he said and added that the motor expedition is only one of the events of IAF’s platinum jubilee celebrations.
Visit St Aloysius school
As part of the expedition, the team visited St Aloysius High School and Team Leader Sqn Ldr S P Choudhury spoke on the various options and career opportunities available to the students to join the IAF in various capacities.
The team members also interacted with the students. Later, the Sqn Ldr presented a CD containing details about the Air Force to School Headmaster Rev Fr Melwyn Pinto.
On the occasion, the Headmaster showed them St Aloysius Chapel, known for its paintings.
The other members of the team included JWO S K Mehta, Sgt R K Malik, Sgt Shiv Shankar, Sgt L S Netaji, Cpl V K Pathak, Cpl C R Rao, Cpl S Sachdeva, Cpl Aviney and LAC H Arun.
One of the Air Force personnel said they had a camel ride on Monday, referring to the pathetic condition of the Udupi - Mangalore highway.
