“Women should undertake floriculture during their free time to become economically independent,” said MLC D M Puttegowda.
Speaking after inaugurating a seminar on floriculture at Mudigere Horticulture College premises on Tuesday, he called upon the horticulture experts to provide information on the crop, markets to the participants and make floriculture a profitable venture.
District Horticulture department Deputy Director B N Prasad said floriculture has become a profitable today. The weather of Malnad is conducive for floriculture.
Horticulture College Director Dr J Venkatesh said flowers are grown in 1.6 lakh hectare land in India. It fetches a business of Rs 200 to Rs 250 crore. More than 200 MNCs are promoting it and have invested more than Rs 1,000 crore for floriculture.
