Dr S K Saidapur, vice-chancellor, Karnatak University, Dharwad has said that awareness needs to be created about cancer since it was detrimental to people’s life.
It was better to keep away from bad habits such as tobacco and gutka to save themselves from the disease.
Speaking after inaugurating a two-day international conference on ‘the management of oral cancer’ organised by Oralonk Society and Karnataka Cancer Hospital and Research Centre here, he said weakness and destruction of cells are responsible for any disease because of which people from their young age should concentrate towards their health and lead a happy life.
Dr S B Nadig, founder-member of the centre, who presided, said such workshops would help young doctors to update their knowledge about recent developments in the treatment of cancer and also to have practical knowledge through live surgeries.
Dr R B Patil, Dr B R Patil, Dr Bhushan Jayade, Dr Sanjeev Kulgod were present. International delegates, Ian Hutchson, Andrew Brennan, Matega Izami and Sajjad Walji, Prof Anil D’Cruz, Dr Moni Kuriyakoose, Dr Sayyed Ul-Islam, Dr Rajiv Borle were given away certificates by Dr Saidapur.
