Tirkey sparkles in big CMP victory
Manoj Tirkey’s five-goal effort was the feature of Corps of Military Police’s (CMP) crushing 8-1 win over Vasu Sports Club, Hubli, in the State ‘B’ Division hockey league at the KSHA stadium on Tuesday.
Tirkey scored in the third, 13th, 15th, 48th and 52nd minutes. Geeth R Singh (17th), Pratap Horo (25th) and Boxla (33rd) were the other goal scorers.
For the vanquished, Mithun struck in the 22nd minute.
In another encounter, Rainbow scored a narrow 2-1 win over State Bank of India. Aiyappa (45th) and Karan Poonacha (50th) scored for the winners, while Uthaiah (20th) had found the target for the losers.
Results: CMP: 8 (Manoj Tirkey 3rd, 13th, 15th, 48th, 52nd minutes, Geeth R Singh 17th, Pratap Horo 25th, Boxla 33rd) bt Vasu SC, Hubli: 1 (Mithun 22nd); Rainbow: 2 (Aiyappa 45th, Karan Poonacha 50th) bt SBI: 1 (Uthaiah 20th).
Murthy gets  better of Savur
BV Srinivasa Murthy edged out Arvind Savur 740-682 in a battle of the veterans in a Super league match of the second leg of the 38th Senior State-ranking billiards tournament at the KSBA Hall on Tuesday.
In other matches, there were victories for D Rajkumar, B Bhaskar and A Satish Kumar.

FAPS outclass hapless Inventure
Frank Anthony Public School outclassed Inventure Academy 7-0 in the boys under-14 section of the Mignon Memorial 5-a-side inter-school football on Tuesday.

SBMJC emerge champions
Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College scored a 20-run win over Presidency College to emerge triumphant in the the Centenary Shield inter-collegiate cricket tournament on Sunday. Batting first, SBMJC scored 159 for six in their 20 overs.
In reply, Presidency were restricted to 145 for nine in 20 overs.

Golf tournament on Sunday
The Confederation of Indian Industry will host the CII ‘Rain’ CEO’s Golf Challenge at the Bangalore Golf Club on Sunday.
Top CEOs from across the country will be taking part in the one-day bash. The event will be played on a stableford format under three handicap categories — 0-8, 9-15 and 16-24.
