Congress leader seeks CBI probe

A Congress leader of Belgaum has moved the High Court seeking CBI probe against Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, former CM H D Kumaraswamy, and all the BJP and JD(S) MLAs, part of the new coalition government, while alleging them of suppressing the alleged Rs 150 crore mining scam.
Petitioner, Shankar Munavalli - Cong leader and an agriculturist of Shahapur, Belgaum, has alleged that the BJP-JD (S) coalition which has come together again is motivated with an object of sidelining the Rs 150 crore Bellary mining scam alleged by BJP MLC Janardhana Reddy.
Women fined
The HC has imposed a fine of Rs 1.21 lakh on two women for pouring acid on two men and a woman in 1992 in Shimoga district and sentenced them to imprisonment for six months.
The Division Bench headed by Justice K Shreedhar Rao, partly allowed an appeal by the prosecution and modified the penal sentence imposed on Husna Banoor and Najmunnisa of Sulebylu, Shimoga district under charges of hurt and grievous hurt. The accused were alleged to have poured acid on Abdul Basheer, Kairunnisa and Samiulla Khan, upset by singing of an obscene song.  Out of the fine amount, each accused was directed to pay Rs 30,000 each to Abdul Basheer and Kairunnisa and Rs 500 to Samiulla Khan.
Notices issued
The High Court on Tuesday ordered notices to Bangalore south assistant commissioner (AC) and tahsildar, over the writ petition filed by Madhusudanandapuri swami, one of the two seers claiming succession to Omkarashrama in Srinivasapura, Bangalore.
