Mobile service to fight diabetes
Bangalore, dhns:
The diabetes figures in India is set to explode in 2030 affecting about 80 million of the population. So Novo Nordisk, a health care company specialising in diabetes care, launched IMPROVE Control Mobile Clinic to take diabetes screening services to the grassroots on Tuesday. In Phase I, this mobile clinic will provide diabetes detection services in rural areas and among the urban poor in and around Bangalore.
“India currently has 40 million of its population affected by diabetes and in most cases it is under detected and under treated,” said Managing Director of Novo Nordisk (India), Melvin D’Souza. The mobile clinic will cover 60 per cent of the rural population as they don’t have access to such facilities, he explained.
In Phase 1-the mobile clinic in Bangalore will cover a 150 kms radius. In Phase II which will be launched in March 2008 it will cover areas  across the state and Phase III which will be launched in June 2008 it will cover areas in and around Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. The services will expand to four mobile clinics in the future.
