Bangalore Urban zilla panchayat on Wednesday passed a resolution recommending withdrawal of licence to Biocon plant, at Bommanahalli.
It was passed as members in the general meeting alleged underground water in 18 villages surrounding the plant was being polluted.
The issue was raised at the meeting, where discussion was held on comprehensive drinking water and sanitary projects taken up by district administration.
The government should ask Biocon to provide potable water to the affected people. If the firm does not agree, then it should stop power supply to the plant and cancel its licence, V Rajanna, a member. However, ZP president M Sadanand announced that a resolution to recommend cancellation of the licence of the plant at Bommanahalli would be adopted.
Many members also demanded that the government should reserve at least 2 acres in each village for graveyard.
Bangalore East Taluk Panchayat President B A Basavaraj and others said that the government should allot sufficient land for graveyards.
Bescom officers informed at the meeting that the company could not adopt handpumps to many borewells in the district, due to shortage of funds. They demanded the release of Rs 7.5 crore for repairing the borewells.
